A versatile and all featured work dog, Siberian Husky is a perfect guardian and companion. The breed is crazy for running, chasing and investigation. The Siberian Husky dogs need new challenges to satisfy their adventurous spirit. They are ever ready for any activity outdoors. Indoors, the Siberian Husky dogs are quite delightful, joyous and entertaining to family members, they behave gentle with children and care for them. They stay loyal to owner and protective toward his belongings. They need a strong relation with any human or other canine pet. They remain bonded with love and affection and need attentions of the owners. They are intelligent, independent and sharp in reactions, they tend to create fun and amuse the viewers. The dog bears Northern heritage of appearance and compete contemporary breeds in strength, speed and stamina. The Siberian Husky dogs are very old breed of Siberia, these dogs had been used for several hundred years by native of Chukchi tribe, off eastern Siberian peninsula. These dogs were used to herd reindeer, drive cattle, guard of flock and pulling sledded carts over snowy mountains. The Siberian Husky dogs were employed in the form of small groups and were able to work in such severe weather conditions for prolonged durations. The dogs were suitably build for such jobs and were light in weight, not letting the dog to penetrate deep inside the snow, further effective grasp of the toes enabled them to pull the sleds powerfully. Their speed brings them in race competitions in Malamute, a region of Alaska. Fur traders of the area were interested in such competitions, and these were the people who brought the dog to Alaska from Siberia. The Siberian Husky participated in All-Alaskan Sweepstakes, competitions in which the dogs were to pull sleds for 408 miles during the year 1908. Thereafter, the dog achieved its fame and became popular breed for this event. The dog has been used by Admiral Byrd during a mission in Antarctic region during early1900s. Siberian Husky dogs also served the human by distributing much-needed medicines in Nome, an area of Alaska during an epidemic of diphtheria in the year of 1925. The breed had also served the Arctic Search and Rescue Unit of Army during World War II. This versatile and useful breed was recognized in 1930 by American Kennel Club. This breed is effectively use by search and rescue organizations across the world.
Siberian Husky is human loving breed, it not expected in any way that, this breed could be aggressive to humans. Their expressions are soft and gentle that human beings are automatically attracted towards them. They are extremely caring and well wisher of the peoples. They are kind not only to the human beings but to other animals including dogs. They feel happy while playing with their masters, you would get childish play even from an old Siberian Husky. They go along well with new dog owners and are said to be a wax personality, you can mould as you want it. The experienced owners of Siberian Husky rightly describe its temperament as it will only reflect back you, what you have shown to them. Keeping this fundamental truth in mind, you would feel a greater challenge in training, as you can make or mar the dog.
With the increase in demand and popularity, some irresponsible breeders have developed the exact replica of the dog, which is not off course the original Siberian Husky dog. The problems in the distinguishing of right one would be enough investing in time and money both. The breed is expert and can easily untie the cordons either fences or doors and gates to escape, this fact is a tradeoff against its superior qualities of search and rescue, survival at snowy mountains and other work areas. Never leave your Siberian Husky without governance. Conduct, committed housetraining and ensure your dog is not spoiled.
Owner Should Know
In cold climate, Siberian Husky dogs shed twice a year, it may increase in warmer area. They are classified as low shedders.
They are ideal for open houses with fences. Apartment living is not well suited, however, some can adjust but with requisite exercises.
Keep them leashed or in close fenced area, otherwise they would escape and will wander miles down.
They dig extensively due to their search instinct, provide a yard or lane to dig otherwise they will find your garden, flower beds or even your house.
They are adaptive toward strangers, they would not warn you about intruders coming to your house. Therefore, not suited for watchdogs.
They need an experienced handler during training; otherwise you would spoil your dog.
They are extreme investigator, and will go till end for any doubt.
